Spring Valley, Minnesota
My plan was to sleep outside as much as possible, mainly for economic reasons. I brought a hammock and a tent, I don’t like sleeping in my car. I can tolerate the cold overnight, but when it’s regularly below freezing that means your water is always frozen, food, tooth paste, brain, etc. Not even type 2 fun at that point.
So I scrambled to find an affordable place to stay inside. I wanted seclusion without isolation, but was gonna take what I could get for less than $50 a night. There was only one option: a room in Spring Valley, Minnesota. Only 1.5 hours south of Minneapolis, and affordable, I jumped at the opportunity.
Little did I know that I hit the jackpot. My host, Beverly (aka “Bev the Fossil Lady”), is the mastermind and powerhouse behind Whispering Winds Glamping Resort. A 3 acre property containing a stream, several tiny houses, horses, bunnies, and brimming to the gills with trinkets and treasures.
I will be elaborating in a longer post later — but it’s spooky how similar Beverly and I turned out to be. From sharing home grown cannabis to discussing the perils of too many projects (ADHD lol) it’s been a treat to spend time with her. I’ve endlessly daydreamed about having a place just like hers and now I’m able to receive a lifetime of advice from someone who has lived it.
I’ll be here until about the 16th or so. Turns out there is lots to do in the area.
Stay tuned!
